Marriott data breach

The Marriott International hotel chain has confirmed yet another data breach that exposed employee and customer information—an unfortunate security incident for a company that several major hacks have hit in recent years.
Hackers stole around 20GB of data, including confidential business documents and customer payment information, from the BWI Airport Marriott in Baltimore, Maryland, according to Furthermore, redacted sample documents published by data breaches appear to show credit card authorization forms, which would provide an attacker with the information required to make fraudulent purchases with a victim’s card.
According to current reports, the latest incident is far less severe than previous hacks against the hotel chain. For example, Marriott disclosed in 2018 that it had been the victim of a database breach affecting up to 500 million guests of the Starwood hotel network, which Marriott acquired in 2016. In 2020, another data breach exposed the personal information of 5.2 million guests.
