According to The Wall Street Journal, senior officials from Alibaba Cloud were reportedly brought in to explain the data breach that led to the selling of information about a billion Chinese individuals on the dark web.
A misconfigured Alibaba Cloud server is suspected of being the source of the breach, which revealed names, residence locations, ID numbers, phone numbers, and criminal records and did not require a password to access it.
Alibaba engineers have reportedly been asked to assess the database structures it provides in its cloud and to look over other clients’ setups after the leak was discovered.
The largest data breach in history is believed to be the Shanghai Police leak.
